The river in wintertime

It snowed. Everything is quiet and peaceful. I love wintertime :-)

Jan De Vliegher - Strand 4

I read a wonderful article In Kunstletters of Jan De Vlieger, a belgian artist.
De Vliegher is constantly trying to prove the contrary by converting the physical world into a pictorial one.
As opposed to the many tendencies to represent the trivial, trite, bestial and even catastrophic world in art and thus even give it aesthetic value in the end, De Vliegher acts as the mouthpiece of happiness, unspoiled beauty, pomp and circumstance. He paints the joys of reality in a suggestive manner and with an increasing level of abstraction. Like the nineteenth-century Spanish realist painter Joachim Sorolla, he puts a reality of happiness on canvas by using pure, primary and unmixed fresh colours.
Please take a look at his work here.

Work on paper

Working on paper gives me more freedom than working on canvas.
It feels more natural to me.
These are very small works made on the back of a tea box. Now I collect everything I find to paint on. It gives an extra dimension to the painting.
